Everyday uses for a Microbee - elpiggio - 11-06-2022 I've been thinking for a while about actually using a Microbee for a daily driver. I mean actually use it for a lot of stuff I would normally get on a PC to do, but without all the distractions. I'm sure all this would be technically possible: * Some sort of Email system. Obviously this would require a Telnet connection and possibly some infrastructure to provide a simple text-based email service. Even just a simple messaging system between Microbee users would be handy. * Some data feeds (like some of the stuff on FujiNet) - daily Weather Reports, News Tickers, stuff like that. Even just text-based command line stuff for retrieval. * eBooks in Text Format, like Project Gutenburg. A Microbee would be great for reading on. Maybe pages of text could be uncompressed 'on the fly'. I once compressed the text of the entire King James Bible onto a 400MB Floppy Disk using UHARC or something like that. * A regular Microbee Magazine, like the old Disk Magazines we used to get in the C64 scene. * A way to send Print Jobs over Telnet, so that we could do Word Processing on the Microbee. * The best of the programs we already have, like To-Do List, Personal Finance, Note Taking program, etc. * A few Microbee games we already have, like brain teazers, puzzles, etc. Maybe some simple interactive games that can be played over Telnet. * Perhaps a pop-up Calendar system that works like Sidekick but can flash an LED for an alert or beep or something. |
