Microbee 128k Standard System Master & Working Master disks - ChickenMan - 04-04-2020 Thanks to kimjohn for making his disk collection available to be imaged. All were Nashua branded Microbee labelled original 5.25" 40tr standard Microbee ds40 disks with no copy protection. The disks had not been stored well in their earlier life as basically all were initially unreadable using ubeedisk on my WinXP PC or the Floppyio. The disks surface showed lots of fingerprints and other contaminants and the floppy drives heads were clogged after reading Track 0. Some disks had tried to be booted earlier in their life and the first couple of tracks scratched or actually missing. These were not even attempted to be imaged. However, a solution for the others was to open the outer jacket, remove the floppy platter and thoroughly scrub each surface with some detergent and cold water using a folded tissue. Rinse well & dry and slip it back into a clean outer jacket noting its correct orientation. I was then able to get a 100% error free image of the disks, phew.... A lot of work but ended with good results. The disks all booted to a very early version of the Shell and all had an early version of Transfer on them. Contents a bit different to the images we currently have while the 128k Utilities disk had been previously scratch, so not imaged. All had their labels scanned also and included here. So in the MbeeTech Repository in the Microbee\Software\System_Disks\System_Disks folder we placed 128k_std_system_master_84_08_15_ds40.dsk 128k_std_working_master_84_12_21_ds40.dsk 128k_micropro_master_ds40.dsk 128k_microsoft_master_ds40.dsk 128k_system_master.jpg <--- these all in Microbee\Documentation\Pictures\Disks\5.25_inch folder 128k_working_master.jpg 128k_utility_master.jpg 128k_micropro_wordstar_master.jpg 128k_microsoft_master.jpg spellstar.jpg wordstar.jpg |
