Gotek mods - ChickenMan - 12-11-2019

I use a Gotek unit to replace my floppy drive(s) on my Microbees. You replace the 3 digit display with a small oLED screen and you can now see the name of the image you wish to boot rather than just a number.  Put in a rotary controller and thats easier to use than the 2 buttons for image selection.  The author of FlashFloppy has now published details on how to replace the oLED screen and actually have the image name etc displayed on your monitor screen.  This makes life easier when the Gotek is installed in your 256TC as the floppies are on the side and difficult to see.

Has anyone else tried this option ? I've ordered the parts and will report back when they arrive.

Someone also uses Goteks flashed with FlashFloppy and has installed an OLED screen.
It works a charm and makes it much more convenient for those who can read tiny writing!

Someone hopes that the FlashFloppy firmware will be enhanced to act as two or more active floppy drives.

My "Testing" gotek that I use for testing purposes on various systems, well decided the small OLED screen is just to small, so I cut a hole out of the top and put in a bigger screen. I put the original 3 x 7seg display back in just to fill in the hole.  Oh and put in a rotary changer also, just needs a knob Smile  I've since changed the font since taking that pic and my FF.CFG file now contains :-

display-type = oled-128x64
oled-font = 8x16

Just be aware, that new Gotek units as of mid April 2021 are now being manufactured with a different PCB and a new processor. They use to use a STM32F105 but now use a AT32F415 and the procedure to flash them and do the mods has all changed.  This video explains it and how to do it all using the latest version of Flashfloppy v3.24 or above -
