Perth Amiga Users Group slowly being taken over by Microbee users - CheshireNoir - 24-06-2022

Just a little aside,
I post my "adventures" I have on all my retro computers to the local Facebook group "Perth Amiga Users Group", as, despite the name, they're very much a group that collects whatever retro system they feel like. This includes posts about the Microbee. (A significant part of the hobby stuff I have been doing recently has revolved around the 'bee)
I started getting posts from one of the moderators asking if I'd sell him one of my systems. I said "no" but gave him pointers on where I got mine from, and other places to look. Many people in the group commented on having nostalgic feelings for them, which culminated in me bringing my Personal Communicator 32k to the last big Meetup. (We got 55 people, which isn't bad for an event of this type)
Since then, three more members in the group have got at least one Microbee, including the moderator. (One managed to get a batch lot of three in various states, including a "Premium" system, which makes me quite envious :-D, at least until Ewan releases the Premium ++ and I buy one)

We jokingly discussed renaming the group "Perth Amiga and Microbee Users Group" :-D

I have suggested they all join this fine forum, but as yet, I don't think any of them have managed to get that far. (The first thing I do when I get a new system is find the appropriate forums and sign up.)

Just a little anecdote about the ongoing popularity of these systems.

John

Well done John, keep up the good work. Dont forget also in the last hours that Microbee (then owned by MicroCorp Pty Ltd,) actually also sold Amigas and even started converting some Microbee software to run on the Amiga. So the 2 were together for awhile so a re-name does make sense.

The first bit of software to be ported to the Amiga was the Smart Model controller software.
I wrote it from scratch on an A500 using Assempro.  It was never released.
I finished the software after I left the company but Microcorp didn't want to pay for the end product as
I'd spent 3 months completing it.  Sadly, sometime in the mid 90's I turfed the source code for it.

Here's some pics of the demo version :

It was for this product :

That's awesome! Would you mind me posting that to the Facebook group?
Obviously with credit to yourself.
