The many derivatives of the CP/M operating system • The Register RE: The many derivatives of the CP/M operating system - someone - 11-08-2022 Thanks Chickenman! Also you know there's also the official microbee variations - including the bog standard (with CCP) for the microbee 56, ZCPR (CCP replacement) for the microbee CIAB, microbee shell & OS mods for the microbee 128. There's a whole bunch of user developed alternatives even including a MSXDOS derivative. (Yay! subdirectories!) CP/M is essentially geared up for character based I/O such as ASCII terminals and printers. Some of the microbee variations instead use direct hardware access - e.g. 128K shell, MW DISK BASIC. Even Micropro Wordstar 3.3 is configurable for direct memory mapped VDU memory access for improved performance. |
