ECS-4500 Manuals, Disk images, Label images and ROMs - ChickenMan - 24-04-2024

Thanks to grahaml for providing scans of the documentation & disk labels and dumps of the disks & roms. The documentation needed a bit of cleaning etc. for conversion to searchable PDFs. They ranged from 78 pages to 1 page.

The ECS-4500 computer was produced by Electronic Control Systems Pty. Ltd., Sydney in 1982. Sometime that year the company had a name change to Time Office Computers Pty Ltd but continued selling hardware under the ECS name. From the Technical Manual -

The ECS 4000/4500 series are powerful microcomputer systems with
communications facilities, memory, video display and disk storage (4500 only)
designed for use in a variety of single system and network applications
including intelligent display terminal, data processing and word or text
processing.
Hardware features such as bank switched memory to 256K, multiple video
attributes, double density minidiskette drives, and extensive I/O flexibility
combined with a vast library of system software make the 4000/4500 series
truly universal microcomputer systems.

The disk images were produced using a greaseweazle and saved as SCP and HFE files with the latter only available here, but just ask if they are needed. The floppy drives in the ECS-4500 were Single Sided Double Density 80track Micropolis 100tpi and spinning at 285rpm, so one of these drives needed to write the images back to a floppy. This needed a few attempts to get them imaged correctly as there is only one sector per track. HxCFloppyEmulator cant handle these images as it gets totally confused by the 285 rpm speed. Only 3 of the floppy disks had original labels, so only those were scanned.

The ROMs were all 2716 (2k) variety. There is one byte difference between the #1 ROMs in Units 1 and 2 and the video controller ROMs are very different. There were some 2708 roms also, they will follow later.
