Hello, Beesware and Microbee in education - PeterJo - 14-10-2024 Hello, I was looking through Youtube clips and came across the Microbee 40th anniversary video. It brought back so many memories. In 1984 I was involved in trialling computers in primary schools for the Department of Education in NSW. A mass of boxes containing computers arrived and we had to set them up. At that time programs were loaded via a cassette player. The programs we were given were boring. Don Howard and myself said we could do better. We were told in no uncertain terms that there was no way we could write programs and we should leave it to the experts. WHAT A CHALLENGE! We did write programs and enjoyed some success. I am going to write a longer item on the trials and tribulations that we over came. Now I am keen to get my hands on a working Microbee and retrieve Beesware programs from the repository. I want to show my grandchildren what Pop did when computers were still a novelty. Cheers Peter RE: Hello, Beesware and Microbee in education - ChickenMan - 14-10-2024 Welcome to the forum Peter ![]() Its always great to see past Microbee software writers here and would love to read more of your story. The big question I have to ask is do you have any of your programs and/or documentation still. We have quite a bit of your software in our repository but no documentation of any of them if it actually existed. I'm sure we dont have it all. Any help there would e appreciated. RE: Hello, Beesware and Microbee in education - someone - 15-10-2024 Welcome aboard Peter. Someone finds it interesting that you were discouraged to write your own programs. The microbee was conceived as an educational and experimenter’s platform & is probably the world’s most modified computer on the planet. Whilst you’re waiting to get your hands on a microbee, try a good emulator to show your grandkids what you did. Cheers! |
