BBBASIC - Graham72 - 10-12-2025

recently perusing the treasures in the repository, I came across BBBasic by Conal Walsh. I would love to know the story behind this BASIC version.

RE: BBBASIC - ChickenMan - 10-12-2025

Conal Walsh wrote a few programs for the Microbee, such as House of Frankenstein, Missile Wars and Viatel. The first 2 were sold via Microbee but the last one he sold under Big Bee Software. I assume the BB is short for Big Bee. As for what ver of Basic, I have no idea.

RE: BBBASIC - ChickenMan - 10-12-2025

BBBasic is on the exploring_artificial_inteligence_ds40.dsk (in the Education folder) disk and reading the READ.ME file on the disk, its based on

"... a public domain BASIC which will run the programs pretty much as
they are in the book. This BASIC is purported to be Microsoft BASIC
compatible - this holds true but for a few discrepancies."

RE: BBBASIC - someone - 21-12-2025

Someone seems to recall that Conal Walsh ported TRS80 Missile Attack & Craig Southern writing VIATEL to accompany his dot clock divider circuit.
If you look through some old Australian electronics magazines, you'll find that AVTEK sold a VIATEL program that didn't require any hardware mods.

We have that program in the repository, see viatel_big_bee_software_ds40.dsk in the Software\Applications folder.
