From a recent acquisition of some Microbee disks, this early disk version of Extended Turtle was among them. It was a standard DS40 5.25" Microbee disk that imaged 100% error free.
The program is based on a program written by Chris
Welsh in 1977 as part of his Diploma in Education from
the University of New England. This Microbee version
was inspired by a similar program written for the Apple
computer by John Messing later modified by Chris Bakon,
Paul Jenner and Bruce McAndrew, and most of the
following introduction is taken directly from the
support document for that program.
The program is not a LOGO implementation, but is based
on the work of Seymour Papert and his associates using
the LOGO language.
This is actually the very first Disk based version of Extended Turtle released by Nectar Software, version 4.2d in April 1984. This version was based on the very first version 3.2 released on Tape and compliments the earlier and later versions of Extended Turtle that we already have in the Repository. We also have 2 manuals in the Repository for Extended Turtle and the 2nd Edition is applicable to this version, which gives full instructions on how to actually use the program. The disk also contains the Tape version 3.3, T-TURTLE.MWB and a Demo file called HOUSDEMO. Load it with a ^R and when loaded, enter [TOWN] and watch it slowly draw a row of houses.
So in the MBeeTech Repository in the Microbee/Software/Education folder we placed
nectar_extended_turtle_4.2d_ds40.dsk
